I am really bored with this blogger layout and have been browsing some of the sites that offer much nicer layouts.
If anyone has experience with these "freebie" layout sites (do they mess up your computer? is it impossible to recover your stuff if they do? words of wisdom?) would you share with me, please?

I've dabbled with those free blogger layout webpages. Most of them are harmless - it's easy to see the really dodgy ones (they usually have pop up banners or something).
You can backup your layout on the 'Edit HTML' page in your blog settings. This downlods your current layout to your computer to save. If you try a freebie layout and it's horrible all you have to do is upload that saved file where is says on the Edit HTML page and your blog will be returned to exactly how it is now. None of your posts will be deleted by chaning layouts, it's all colour changes.
I don't know about the new blogger, but I highly recommend saving your HTML code somewhere, even if you just copy and past it into a word or notepad page. Saves you lots of frustration later if you don't like the changes.
